このプロジェクトのきっかけ

MONSTER Exhibitionは、”Kaiju”（MONSTER）をテーマとしたアートプロジェクトです。

2011年、プロジェクトの発起人の実家が津波にのみ込まれたとき、アーティスト達から支援の申し出をきっかけにプロジェクト（Recover and Biludプロジェクト）を立ち上げ、2013年に第1回MONSTER Exhibitionが開催されました。

このアートプロジェクトの目的は、アートの力を借りて、たくさんの人に集まってもらい、日々忘れてしまいがちな「あの日」のことを思い出すきっかけを作ることです。

テーマの”Kaiju”（MONSTER）は、あの日、何もかもをのみ込んでしまった津波をメタファーとしています。その理由は、”Kaiju”（MONSTER）という化身により直接的な表現ではなく、多くの人が楽しめるような展示会を実現するためでした。

MONSTER Exhibition is an art project on the theme of ”Kaiju”(MONSTER).
In 2011, when the home of the promoter of the project was swallowed by the tsunami, artists offered their support. It gave impetus to the project, and in 2013, the first MONSTER Exhibition was held.
The purpose of this art project is to use the power of art to create an opportunity for many people to get together and remember “the day” that people tend to forget as time goes by.
The ”Kaiju”(MONSTER) in the theme is a metaphor for the tsunami that swallowed everything that day. The reason was to put together an exhibition that many people could enjoy, as it was not a direct expression through a ”Kaiju”(MONSTER) incarnation.

第1回MONSTER Exhibitionでは、せんだいスクール・オブ・デザインと東北大学の連携プロジェクトによりポスターを展示しました。被災地の膨大なデータを可視化することで一般の方にも被災地の状況をわかりやすく伝えることができました。

また、福岡を拠点に活動するクリエイティブ・ラボanno labの協力により、津波の高さを来場者に視覚的に体感してもらいました。多くの来場者から、「津波3mと言われてもピンとこなかったけど、これは油断できない高さだと理解できた。」「津波15mをイメージするのが難しかったが本当に恐ろしいことが起こったことがわかった。」など、津波の怖さを改めて知ってもらう機会となりました。

会場の美しいブースデザインは、hannat architects（ハナト アーキテクツ）によるものでした。
会場がMONSTERを彷彿させるインスタレーションとなり、多くの人を惹きつけ会場に足を運ばせました。

これからのMONSTER Exhibition

このプロジェクトの目的は、現在では終わりを告げたと考えます。なぜならば、その後、国内外で大規模な自然災害が続きました。現在では、テーマとチャリティを継承しながら、新しいアートプロジェクトとして活動しています。

”Kaiju”（MONSTER） の解釈は、アーティストに委ねています。日本独自のコンテクストを持ち合わせる”Kaiju”（MONSTER）は、アーティストの想像力をかき立てます。その想像力を存分に表現してもらうため、映像、絵画、造形、グラフィック、ゲーム、生け花、建築と、ジャンルを問うことはありません。

アーティストやクリエイターの集団でもある私たちは、ひとつの概念や過去の常識に縛られることなく、これから世の中の進化によって生まれてくる新しいジャンルや、まだ見出されない「こと」や「人」の価値に目を向けて、新しいチャンスの場を提供するというミッションを掲げ、2017年、非営利団体の一般社団法人イヴォルブ アート＆デザイン ジャパンを設立しました。

そのミッションのひとつでもあるMONSTER Exhibitionを通じ、新しい価値を開拓し、日本の芸術やアートの進化に貢献していきます。

MONSTER Exhibitionの作品の売り上げの一部は、東日本大震災義援金もしくは自然災害の起きた地域へ寄付し、持続的に活動を続けて参ります。

MONSTER Exhibition in the future
We believe the purpose of this exhibition has now come to an end. The reason is that large-scale natural disasters have since kept occurring at home and abroad. Currently, we work as a new art project while keeping the theme and charity work alive.
The interpretation of ”Kaiju”(MONSTER) is left to the artists. ”Kaiju”(MONSTER), which exists in a unique Japanese context, excites the artists’ imagination. In order to give free rein to that imagination, we do not stipulate genres such as video, painting, plastic art, graphics, games, ikebana, and architecture.
As a group of artists and creators, we are not bound by a single concept or a common sense of the past. In 2017, we established Evolve Art & Design Japan, a general incorporated association, which is a nonprofit institution, with a mission of providing opportunities for new genres that will emerge from the evolution of the world, with an eye on the value of “things” and “people” that have not yet been discovered. 

Through the MONSTER Exhibition, which is one such mission, we will develop new values and contribute to the evolution of Japanese traditional and modern art.

A portion of the proceeds from the works of art at the MONSTER Exhibition will be donated to the Great East Japan Earthquake Relief Fund or areas where natural disasters have occurred, and we will carry on our activities on a continuous basis.
