Description:
I create my art in Yamato, Nara, while listening to the voices of the ancient past.
GENBU, the subject of this work, is a sacred creature symbolizing longevity and renewal. I created its form in papier-mâché using discarded newspapers. Newspapers record the world and our daily lives, yet once they have fulfilled their role, they are easily forgotten. By reconstructing these “memories of the past,” I question whether our declining Earth still holds the possibility of regeneration.
Artist Statement:
I was born and raised in Yamato, Nara, the birthplace of Japan. I create art daily while listening to voices from ancient times.
