Description:
Using bonsai as a motif, this work employs monster figures from Japanese tokusatsu TV. The monsters are treated as symbols of nature’s strange forms, and by placing them within the bonsai structure, the work tests how far the idea of reproducing nature can hold.
Artist Statement:
I’m drawn to questions that arise as I try to understand things, and to the moments when ideas expand from them. I create work by turning my core sense of digesting, transforming, and spitting the world back out into action, as a way of exploring the world.
