Title: Mask of an Unseen Bird
Year of production: 2026
Materials: urushi lacquer, linen cloth, jinoko (clay powder), washi paper, metal powder, gold leaf
Dimensions: H75 × W75 × D15 cm
Description:
This work examines material transformation through traditional processes using urushi lacquer.
Layers of linen cloth and jinoko are gradually built up, allowing time and labor to remain visible.
The surface records subtle shifts caused by repetition, drying, and physical engagement with the material.
Artist Statement:
My practice is guided by subtle forces that arise before language and rational thought.
Rather than expressing fixed ideas, I work through processes in which bodily impulses and sensations gradually surface through material engagement.
Using urushi lacquer, I attend to how time, repetition, and physical action accumulate within a surface.
The work opens a space where meanings remain unstable, allowing viewers to encounter perceptions that have not yet taken form.
