My Monster is exuvia, which is a biological term for the abandoned exoskeletons of insects, which I use to show our own “exuvia” traits — such as notebooks or clothes cast about and left behind. Exuvia is not alive nor dead, but rather it exists in its own peculiar way. For instance, I feel that a room or chair that the owner has just left has more of its own presence than it does with the owner in it. Well used notebooks filled with words and scribbles as well as worn clothes thrown on the floor both express the owner’s character. To me, exuvia serves as a reminder of the owner’s actions.
